Open Finance.
A wider view of opportunity.

From banking APIs to cooperation built around data. Discover why shared rules matter just as much as technology.

The Open Finance idea

Beyond access
to a payment account.

Open Banking focuses on services related to payment accounts. Open Finance extends the perspective to other financial data, such as investments, insurance or financing. The starting point is using data for a defined service while giving users control over sharing.

Opening another interface is only part of the work. Participants need clear rules: who provides data, who uses it, for what purpose, under what responsibilities and how permissions are verified.

APIs connect systems. Shared rules make a working service possible.

Three perspectives

Technology needs
context.

A data ecosystem works when participants understand both the interface and the terms of cooperation.

01 / User

Control and purpose

Which data is needed, how will it be used and how does the user manage access?

02 / Participants

Rules for collaboration

Roles, responsibilities, quality standards and a shared approach to resolving issues.

03 / Systems

Coherent architecture

Interfaces, data models, authentication and operations linked to real service flows.

How do you turn the idea of data sharing into a working set of rules? This book explores the design of Open Finance schemes: participant roles, governance, operating rules and technical foundations.

A useful perspective for teams designing financial services, architecture and cooperation across a data ecosystem. Visit the author’s website for editions, availability and purchasing information.

The FinTechAPI perspective

From a wider idea
to your own project.

Experience in banking API standards offers a useful starting point for a broader discussion about data sharing. A project should consider its service objective, participants, data scope and integration conditions together.

FiDA is a separate regulatory initiative related to wider financial data access. Open Finance also includes business and architectural questions that reading a regulation alone will not resolve.
